Free online equine nutrition training designed to improve knowledge, build confidence and gain AMTRA points

The SPILLERSTM Brand has launched a nutrition training hub for retailers, to support them with practical, evidence-based equine nutrition knowledge.

Five structured learning modules take retailers on a journey of equine nutrition know-how and at the end they can take a quiz to test their knowledge and ultimately earn a Certificate of Completion. AMTRA members can also obtain 12 CPD points by completing all six of the clinical conditions modules.

“Our new Nutrition Training modules are designed to help retailers become better equipped to support their customers with confidence and expertise,” said Vanessa Allen, Nutrition Content Manager at Mars Horsecare, home of the SPILLERS brand.

“Whether a feed advisor working in a feed store, an equine studies student, or someone who simply passionate about improving their equine nutrition knowledge our training hub is for them, and it’s free to use.”

Each module delivers clear, practical information for day-to-day application and sharing with customers:

· Module 1: Market Information

This module provides important insights into the feed category as well as expert tips on category management.

· Module 2: Naturally Occurring and Other Prohibited Substances

This video explains why NOPS knowledge is essential for anyone supporting competition horses.

· Module 3: Nutrients

This module delivers the facts about nutrients and their relationship with horse health and performance.

· Module 4: Clinical Conditions

This module explores common clinical conditions and how tailored nutrition can support outcomes.

· Module 5: Feed Categories

This module gets to grips with different feed types and formats and provides advice on choosing the best options for individuals.

The Clinical Conditions module is eligible for a total of 12 AMTRA points, on the successful completion of each quiz related to the six topics within the module.

Early reviews from retailers

Juliet Holden at Carltons The Feed Merchants LTD in North Tyne is one of a number of people who have already signed up to the training.

She said: “I recently completed the SPILLERS nutritional training and really enjoyed it. It is a very informative course which gives a great overview of the feed market and nutrients needed by horses, as well as deeper explanations of different clinical conditions and what kind of feed would be best to manage them. The training was easy to follow and packed with practical advice to pass onto customers, helping them find the correct feed regime for their horse."

Evie Faraday at Stanah Horse Feeds said: “I love how the modules are easy to follow, short but informative and helpful from our point to be able to relay and pass knowledge to our customers, also to help increase our sales. The fact they are split and not too long means we’ll have more chance of doing them during the busy times in store.”
