Global experts from all areas of veterinary medicine are on the programme for VET Festival 2020, the two-day learning event for the veterinary team, that uniquely combines world-class continuing professional development (CPD) with an inspiring, outdoor, ‘festival’ environment.

Dr Aldo Vezzoni, a European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery; Dr Peter Southerden, a European and RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Dentistry and Rachel Lumbis, a lecturer in Veterinary Nursing at the Royal Veterinary College, are just some of the world-class speakers at this year’s event which will span the clinical spectrum. In addition to all of the education streams from previous years, new subjects have been added including dermatology, dentistry and ophthalmology. Dedicated streams on endoscopy and hepatobiliary disease have also been introduced for 2020, together with a new ‘Top Tips’ stream, offering quick and practical advice for immediate use in clinical practice.

In total, VET Festival will feature 18 separate education streams covering small animal clinical topics with dedicated nursing and rehabilitation content a key component of the programme. The integration of veterinary professionals is a fundamental theme of the festival so, in the rehabilitation stream, for the first time, surgeons, physiotherapists, rehabilitation specialists and hydrotherapists will offer perspectives in tandem.  Over the weekend, 135 lectures will be offered to suit those at every level of clinical practice.  Delegates will collect 14 hours of CPD over the two days.

Created by vets for vets, VET Festival’s commitment to the well-being of veterinary professionals will be reinforced for 2020 with the introduction of a ‘Wellness and development for you and your practice’ theatre, featuring life-enhancing talks in four key areas - mind, body, soul and perspective. Insightful speakers from both within and outside the profession will feature, including Paralympic champion Rachel Morris MBE, psychotherapist Di Gammage and mindfulness leadership specialist, Natalie Pennicotte-Collier.  This year, also for the first time, a spacious arena will enable well-being activities to run alongside lectures, offering delegates the opportunity for practical sessions in yoga, movement, fitness and mindfulness to improve their day to day well-being.

The Family Hub, which supports delegates attending with their children, will be returning so all delegates can enjoy the opportunity to learn and gain CPD hours. Those attending the event are invited to let their hair down at the VETFest™ Live Party Night on the Friday evening.  A diverse exhibitor village will surround the event.

Professor Noel Fitzpatrick, Clinical Chair at Fitzpatrick Referrals, who conceived VET Festival and launched it in 2015, commented: “Outdoor festivals bring joy to the soul and I have always wanted education and continuing professional development to feel uplifting, inclusive and life-enhancing, both professionally and from a personal wellness perspective. That’s what VetFest is all about – food for the mind, body and soul.”

Nicole Cooper, VET Festival Event Director, added: “For veterinary professionals keen to learn about the latest thinking and developments in small animal veterinary medicine, VET Festival is simply unmissable.  The breadth of content on offer and the quality of our speakers increases every year but what really sets VET Festival apart is the opportunity it offers for delegates to learn in a relaxed, fun environment.

“The setting is fundamental to the success of VET Festival because we believe it helps to nurture the collective wellbeing of our delegates, giving them a well-deserved opportunity to spend time with colleagues and friends outside of work and putting them into a frame of mind which will optimise their learning.”

She continued: “As the event continues to grow, it’s also important to say that we take the environmental sustainability of VET Festival very seriously and our commitment to minimising waste runs through every aspect of the event.   We look forward to welcoming delegates to the beautiful setting of Loseley Park next June and wish them an inspirational and unforgettable couple of days.”

VET Festival 2020 will once again be supported by international animal health products company MWI Animal Health.

"In the veterinary profession, time is often in short supply, which makes fitting in CPD hours, finding time to prioritise well-being and maintaining work-life balance a constant juggle," said Alan White Group Commercial Director at MWI Animal Health.  "We're partnering with VET Festival again in 2020 because of our shared goal to support vets, vet practices and the industry as a whole, so that, as a profession we can do what we do best - take care of the nation's animals"
