The Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund (RWAF) and Burgess Pet Care are celebrating a successful year of rabbit CPD roadshows as they begin planning for the 2018 calendar.

Four well-attended roadshows, masterclasses and a main conference in Edinburgh at Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, all supported by Burgess Pet Care, have provided clinicians with the opportunity to gain or improve practical skills such as rabbit airway management and dentistry.

Feedback from clinicians has been consistently excellent. 100% of delegates said they would attend a similar CPD event again and also said this valuable CPD activity will make a difference to their day-to-day practice.

Rieke Hettrick of North East Referrals said:

“The RWAF provide excellent CPD with provision of a good mix of entry-level general rabbit medicine and surgery along with more in-depth information at the conference. As a practitioner with many years of experience, it’s often difficult to find CPD opportunities with advanced content at the right level to benefit me and my practice. This was perfect.”

Roadshows in Surrey and Liverpool and Edinburgh, led by Specialists Dr Richard Saunders , Dr Craig Hunt and Dr Kevin Eatwell, concluded with the issuing of RWAF and Burgess endorsed certificates, and are the only rabbit-specific CPD events to use Specialists.

Following the success of their advanced dentistry CPD, which was originally provided as a result of veterinary feedback, RWAF is encouraging vets to get in touch if they have any special requirements or areas of interest they would like to explore in the 2018 CPD events.

Dr Richard Saunders, RWAF Vet Specialist Advisor, said:

“This year we were able to build on the main conference and offer the small group roadshows, which have been a huge success. This is something that we will build on this year and we have already received several requests for new topics.

“Being able to provide affordable CPD and support to the veterinary profession is at the heart of what we do but it wouldn’t be possible without the support of Burgess. Those vets with RWAF and Burgess certificates for airway management and dentistry are the first to achieve this. We hope this will give them not only improved clinical skills, but be recognised as a reputable mark of quality endorsed by industry specialists.”

Peter Lancaster from Burgess Pet Care, said:

“With animal welfare at the heart of everything we do, we’re really proud that these rabbit CPD events have been such a huge success. We’ll continue to support RWAF as part of our ongoing commitment to education and increasing the wider awareness of the issues around rabbit welfare. We look forward to building on the fantastic achievements of 2017 as we carry this momentum through 2018.”

The main conference, consisting of lectures and master classes will be held at Langford Vet School (Bristol) in June 2018 with smaller group CPD taking place at Leahurst and RVC again.

More details, including booking information, will be available on the RWAF website shortly.
