After all, it’s in their nature to be wandering around in the dark in the evening. However, autumn has been found to be the worst time of year for cats getting injured on the road, a study using data from Vets now shows.
That means drivers have to be even more careful on the road to ensure that they don’t make someone’s furry friend their casualty.
The risk of cats suffering from road traffic injuries and fatalities at night is increased and 4% of cats suffer from road traffic accidents.
And it’s not only drivers that can help the feline to be safer – owners can too.
With that in mind, Burns Pet Nutrition has provided a four-step guide to helping your cat be a little bit safer this autumn.
- Make sure you get a GPS cat collar so you know where your furry friend is at all times. And ideally a reflective collar too!
- Ensure they are fed well in the evening to prevent them from getting in dangerous situations hunting
- Observe your cat's behaviour and if you think it hunts out of boredom, make more of an effort to keep it entertained
- When they return for the evening, keep the cat indoors if you live near a busy road
