Vet Nurse Awarded Honorary Membership Of BEVA

Katherine Kissick, a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) from Alderney, has been awarded honorary membership of the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA), in recognition of her career spent developing the profession of equine veterinary nursing.
Honorary membership of BEVA is awarded to those who have performed notable services to the Association or to the equestrian profession as a whole.
Kathy Kissick qualified an RVN in 1983 and following a period in small animal practice embarked on a teaching career that embraced her lifelong passion for horses. As Head of the School for Veterinary Nursing and Farriery at Myerscough College she was a driving force in developing degree courses in farriery and veterinary nursing and the inclusion of equine modules.
Kathy has a long association with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). Initially she was a nursing examiner and then an RCVS Council member before taking up the position of Chair of the Veterinary Nursing Council. She has numerous publications and media presentations to her name including regular appearances in Animal Hospital. Kathy now lives on Alderney where she works as a nursing locum and is a trustee of Alderney Animal Welfare. She remains a consultant to Myerscough on Veterinary Nursing Ethics and the farriery Train the Trainer award.
