The Veterinary Management Group (VMG), the professional association for those in leadership and management roles in the veterinary sector, is seeking new directors to join its board.  The recruits will help it to drive forward a range of major initiatives to raise standards of leadership and management across the sector.  These include its recently launched Leadership Standards Framework, the imminent launch of an innovative set of bespoke leadership qualifications and a range of CPD and peer-support activities.

Applications are invited from individuals with a strong interest in influencing the future direction of leadership and management in the veterinary sector.  The VMG is particularly looking for individuals who offer expertise in the following areas:

·         Corporate, not-for-profit or charity governance, compliance and risk management

·         Not-for-profit fundraising

·         Marketing of products and services

·         Human resources and/or employment law

·         Policy and public affairs

Commenting, VMG President Richard (Rich) Casey said: “The VMG board is already a dynamic group of people with a diverse range of skills and expertise. We have spent this year developing a range of major projects to support our plans to transform leadership across the veterinary sector by setting best practice standards and providing tailored development training and support.

“Looking ahead to 2021, we will be looking to build on what we’ve achieved and are looking for a number of new directors with specific skills to help us push forward.”

VMG Director Gavin Mitchell, Managing Director of IMV Imaging, joined the VMG Board in 2019.  He commented: “I’ve found the opportunity to help shape our industry for the greater good of everyone, including the animals in our care, exceptionally rewarding. The industry is undergoing massive change, and in times of change, a collective group of brains can help to arrive at solid strategies which benefit us all. The team at VMG has been exceptionally welcoming and open to new ideas and innovation.”

VMG Director Liz Somerville BSc (Hons) PgCert VBM, Managing Director of Loch Leven Equine Practice said: “When I started out in practice, I didn’t know anyone and knew little about our industry. Joining the VMG (then VPMA) helped to guide me in my journey from complete newbie to practice manager and owner. 16 years on, the leadership, support and knowledge that I gained has, without doubt, helped shape me into the person I am now. When the opportunity to join the board came up, I jumped at the chance to give something back to our amazing industry and help others on their journey.”

The deadline is 4 January 2021. The role is voluntary although expenses are paid.

The Veterinary Management Group (VMG) is the professional association for all those in leadership and management roles in the veterinary sector.  Our mission is to inspire and empower veterinary leaders and their organisations to learn, share, and grow.
