VetSkill is delighted to share the success of the first student to complete their Level 5 Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing – Practice Nurse. Clare Lackenby RVN has completed her VetSkill diploma at Askham Bryan College, which is a cause for celebration.

Clare inspires, "I am ecstatic to be included in the first cohort of advanced nursing students! This qualification has equipped me with the knowledge to lead a team and correctly assess the competency of students in my practice which, as a clinical supervisor, I have found invaluable".

This qualification also accredits Clare to join the VetSkill Suitably Qualified Persons Register for Companion Animals. VetSkill’s current focus is on technical and competency-based provision in the animal sector, intending to expand into other sectors to provide training and education for life.

Sam Double, VetSkill's Deputy CEO, was delighted with Clare's certification, "This suite of qualifications was developed for nurses in practice desiring qualifications focussed on mastery of skills alongside academic achievement as an equivalent to the Veterinary Technician Specialist scheme in the USA. It is a credit to both Askham Bryan and Clare to achieve this qualification during such a challenging period in veterinary practice due to the Covid-19 pandemic".

VetSkill launched these qualifications in 2019 as the next achievable step for students who have completed their level 3, choosing surgical, medical or practice nurse as their area of special interest. With the potential for more special interest areas in the future, keep an eye out for what VetSkill offers.

"It has been a delight to add this diploma to our lifelong learning courses within the college. This course has enabled learners to develop mastery in consulting and client communications, encouraging them to develop confidence in their knowledge and skills," says Emily Smith, Further Education Coordinator at Askham Bryan College.

By offering a range of qualifications and end-point assessment services for centres and training providers across the UK, VetSkill aims to empower and inspire learners to reach their full potential. For more information, please visit www.vetskill.com or call 01480 278580.
