A veterinary practice in York has achieved two prestigious national awards, from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), the profession’s UK governing body.

Vets4Pets York received outstanding accreditations for its hard work and dedication, and exceptional standards in client service and team and professional responsibilities.

Owner and veterinary surgeon at Vets4Pets York, Helen Trory, said: “Obtaining these awards is a fantastic achievement for our practice, and I couldn’t be prouder of my amazing team.

“When the RCVS awards scheme was launched in 2015, we were immediately interested in working towards the awards, so started to prepare in June for our inspection in December.

“My goal for the practice has always been to work at the highest standard possible and offer the best veterinary care we can, but these awards gave us that extra push to meet the outstanding standards set by the RCVS.

“Although the RCVS accreditation process is voluntary, it was very important to me and my team to get external recognition of the standards we work too, so I was over the moon when we found out about our outstanding achievements.

“I think I am particularly proud of our achievements because the practice is less than three years old and has only been running as a 24/7 practice for just over a year.

“In this time our team has grown from five to 22 colleagues and the number of pets we care for continues to grow.

“My whole team has worked exceptionally hard to make this practice a great place to work, as well as providing exceptional care for our patients.

“I cannot thank my colleagues enough for all their dedication, particularly my head veterinary nurse Katie Todd, who was the driving force behind us being able to get outstanding in these awards.”

The RCVS accreditation scheme allows practices to apply for optional awards in specific areas from client services to in-patient services.

The practice is awarded points against set criteria and the number of points accumulated determines if they win a ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ award.

The RCVS assessor who visited Vets4Pets York, Malcolm Whitehead, was particularly impressed with Helen and her team and commented that they were exceptional in all areas.

Helen graduated from Liverpool in 2004, and initially started working in mixed practice before moving on to small animal practice only.

She opened Vets4Pets York in March 2014, where she now runs the practice and team the way she has always wanted to, and is constantly looking for ways to improve on the already brilliant services she offers.

“Getting these awards shows we are working to extremely high standards and that we are a progressive practice which strives to be the best we can for our clients,” added Helen.

“It’s been a very busy year for us, as the practice continues to grow all the time, which has been challenging at times but it has all been worth it.

“I am now hoping to achieve more awards in 2017, and continue to offer a fantastic client focused service, which has been my ambition from the outset.”
