Speaker: Elizabeth A. Leece BVSc CVA DipECVAA MRCVSPainful patients present to veterinary practices on a daily basis and unfortunately one drug cannot be used to treat all the pain syndromes encountered. The day will focus on management of acute traumatic or post surgical pain, recognition and possible treatment options, including the use of local analgesia, to provide preventative analgesia. We will then consider the more complicated pathophysiology of chronic pain, learn how to approach and implement a pain management plan and look at the newer drugs available on the market. Most importantly we will consider how we can effectively monitor the effectiveness of our treatment and how client education can help us to manage their pet.Bring your own problem cases for the group to discuss later in the afternoon

Speaker: Elizabeth A. Leece BVSc CVA DipECVAA MRCVSAfter a residency in veterinary anaesthesia at the University of Liverpool, Liz moved to the Animal Health Trust, becoming Head of Anaesthesia in 2006. Liz is one of the most experienced anaesthetists in Europe with a special interest in neuroanaesthesia. Following time spent in both university hospital and private referral hospital Liz moved back home to join the team at Northwest Veterinary Specialists in 2016. She is a European and an RCVS specialist in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia and a past president of the Association of Veterinary Anaesthetists.
