This course will explore the following topics: MODULE 1: IDENTIFICATION AND HUSBANDRYThe objective of this module is to guide you in identification of the most common psittacine and passerine species seen in practice. Basic husbandry for the common species of birds seen will be discussed.MODULE 2: HANDLING AND EXAMINATIONThe aim of this section is to provide the clinician with a general and systematic approach to handling and clinical examination of an avian patient.MODULE 3: DIAGNOSTICS AND SUPPORTIVE CAREThis section will focus on sample collection and clinical pathology. Diagnostics to include radiography, ultrasonography and endoscopy will be discussed. At the end of this module we will discuss stabilisation and supportive care of the avian patient.MODULE 4: ANAESTHESIA AND SURGERYAnaesthesia of our avian patients can prove challenging for the clinician. This module aims to discuss pre-anaesthetic evaluation and supportive care. Analgesia, anaesthesia and monitoring will bediscussed. Common surgical procedures performed in our avian patients will be discussed.MODULE 5: DISEASESThere are a vast number of diseases seen across the Avian taxa. This module covers some of the most common conditions seen.MODULE 6: CLINICAL CASESThroughout the 3 weeks of the course, you will also be presented with several clinical cases to work through, that we invite you to analyse and discuss in the classroom forum.
