This advanced-level course is designed for veterinary surgeons who already have experience in neurosurgery and wish to further develop their surgical capabilities. Through a combination of focused lectures and extensive wet-lab sessions, you will refine your understanding of spinal surgical techniques and the management of complex neurological conditions.
More than half of the course is dedicated to practical cadaver-based training, allowing you to practise key neurosurgical procedures under close guidance from experienced neurosurgeons. The emphasis is on developing technical confidence, improving surgical decision-making and gaining familiarity with procedures commonly used to treat spinal disease.
This course is intended for clinicians who already have a solid foundation in spinal anatomy and neurosurgical principles. Prior experience assisting with or performing neurosurgery, or attendance at an introductory neurosurgery course is recommended to ensure you gain maximum benefit from the training.
Topics to be covered:
Ventral slot surgery for cervical disc disease
Cervical hemilaminectomy techniques
Principles of lumbosacral stabilisation
Surgical management of thoracolumbar fractures
Approach to disc-associated cervical spondylomyelopathy (Wobbler syndrome)
