Applied Musculoskeletal Anatomy Of The Racing Greyhound

This practical one–day hands-on course will focus on linking anatomy, biochemistry and exercise physiology with clinical conditions in greyhounds. The use of injury data analyses to inform best practice is also described. The course has interactive tasks to explain the biomechanics and anatomy. Delegates will also be able to view and handle museum specimens of key areas of the MSK system in order to strengthen their understanding of MSK function and disease.

Topics to be covered include:

Injuries of the racing greyhounds
Anatomy and biomechanics of the MSK system.
Exercise physiology.
Data analysis and evidence-based practice.
Clinical examinations and exercise preparations

Who is it for?

People with working/sport dog affiliations (for example, greyhound trainers, dog agility members), physiotherapists, veterinary physiotherapists, animal science course educators/students, veterinary nurses, veterinary surgeons, osteopaths.

The Speakers

Richard Payne<br /> Richard Payne qualified from Cambridge Veterinary School in 1989 and spent several years in general practice. He became involved in greyhound racing as a track veterinarian in 2004, and since then has become more involved in the research aspect of racing greyhounds. Richard has completed several projects for the Greyhound Board of Great Britain on many topics, including the physical properties of wet sand tracks, the electrolyte needs of the racing greyhound and post-exercise recovery, and diseases of racing greyhounds.<br /> <br /> Expertise Summary<br /> Richard Payne is an Associate Professor of Veterinary Anatomy.<br /> <br /> Richard Payne runs the Disease Surveillance and Monitoring Program for the Greyhound Board of Great Britain.<br /> <br /> Teaching Summary<br /> I assist in the teaching of veterinary anatomy, embryology and histology to first and second year veterinary students.
