Date: Friday 7th December, 2018 - Friday 7th December, 2018
Start time: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Duration: 6 hour(s)
Cost: FREE

Dealing with a dyspnoeic animal can be stressful for all concerned. During this one-day course we will consider how best to localise the problem using the available history, clinical observations and targeted diagnostics; with the aim of optimising the management of these cases. Practical methods of oxygen supplementation, including the use of nasal prongs and catheters, will also be discussed, with the goal of showing how they can be employed in your practice.

We will review the application and utility of diagnostics in respiratory patients: blood work, thoracic radiographs, bronchoscopy and a brief foray into the fields of CT and thoracic ultrasound. We will work through the diagnosis and management of the most common causes of dyspnoea and cough in cats and dogs: feline asthma, pneumothorax, laryngeal paralysis, BOAS, pneumonia, heart failure and more.

This day should give you more confidence dealing with coughing and wheezing animals, and further develop your decision making in dyspnoea.

The five key things delegates will learn from this course are:
Practical methods of oxygen supplementation
Practical tips to help to distinguish cardiac and respiratory causes of dyspnoea
Optimal management of feline asthma, and what to consider when things aren’t going well
How to perform a bronchoalveolar lavage, and optimise the diagnostic information obtained from it
A review of thoracic imaging
