This two-day practical course will equip you with the skill set for managing challenging emergency cases and critically ill patients in your practice. There are a variety of skills required when managing these intricate cases, including respiratory care, tricky venous access, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, just to name a few. The aim of this course is for you to develop competence in this wide range of skills.
This course will involve wet and dry lab practical sessions to practice various ECC techniques, simulated scenarios for decision making and patient care, as well as CPR simulation with debriefing. If you want to learn these new techniques, or just need a refresher on some of these skills, this course will be ideal for you.
Topics to be covered include:

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation – technique, stabilisation post resuscitation, hypotension management, manual and mechanical ventilation
Respiratory support techniques – nasal cannulas, thoracocentesis, chest tube placement, arterial blood analysis
Techniques for assisted nutrition – NO tubes, oesophagostomy tube placement, parenteral nutrition, central venous catheter placement, developing nutrition plans
Coagulation and transfusion medicine
Managing the recumbent patient
Emergency fluid therapy – protocols, venous access and intraosseous techniques
