Surgical nursing and the theatre environment can often be daunting, but with knowledge of effective protocols you can provide gold standard care to surgical patients throughout the perioperative period.
A range of topics will be explored to achieve a theatre protocol that utilises your nursing skills and strengthens your abilities. By creating care bundles within practice, we can minimise common complications in the operating room and prevent surgical site infections for our patients.
This course is aimed at nurses with an interest in surgical nursing, or those lacking confidence in this area. From set up, right through to post operative wound management, this one-day interactive course will solidify your understanding of surgical nursing roles, both scrub and circulating.
Topics to be covered include:
Operating room design and maintenance
Ancillary equipment, common instrumentation, and suture materials
Setting up for surgery and patient preparation
Theatre checklists, auditing, and infection control
Intra-operative complications- what to do when it all goes wrong?
Patient care
Wound management
