Have you ever had a trauma patient arrive, and all you can think of is where do I start?This course is designed for emergency veterinarians as well as general practitioners on how to deal with traumatic emergencies.There are many layers of managing trauma patients, from the initial triage and stabilisation; advanced surgery; monitoring critical patients; and dealing with associated complications. This will be an intensive course where you will develop a broad range of skills and knowledge which you can also apply to many of your other patients as well. We will promise it will be challenging but rewarding!
Who is it for?
Veterinarians. Veterinary nurses with a special interest in the topic are welcome to enrol in this course. Please be aware that the course is designed for qualified veterinarians and you should consider this in light of your knowledge and experience before you register.
The Speakers
Duana McBride (BVSc DACVECC MVMedSc FHEA MRCVS) graduated from the University of Sydney, Australia, in 2004 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science, where she developed an interest in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine. After several years in general practice and referral emergency practice, she endeavoured to pursue her dreams by undertaking a residency program at Murdoch University, Australia, which was completed in 2013. She obtained her diploma with the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 2013, alongside a Masters in Veterinary Medical Science (Murdoch University). Duana worked at the Royal Veterinary College in the United Kingdom for 5 years, and is now in private referral practice. Lynda Rutherford (BVMS MVetMed Dipl. ECVS FHEA MRCVS) graduated from the Royal (Dick) Veterinary College, University of Edinburgh in 2005. She worked in rural mixed practice in Cheshire, England for 10 months before working in a small animal only practice, with a high surgical case load. Lynda completed a one year rotating Internship at the Royal Veterinary Collage (RVC), London in 2009-2010 before undertaking a residency in Small Animal Surgery also at the RVC. After completing her residency she passed the European College of Veterinary Surgery Diploma examinations in 2015. Lynda has been working as a soft tissue surgeon at the RVC since completing her residency and she enjoys the challenge and multidisciplinary approach of trauma cases.
