This 100% online CPD mini-module has been developed and aimed towards the more experienced veterinary surgeon. The module content has been developed by veterinary specialists at the forefront of current veterinary research.
The module will provide you with 25 hours of designation specific CPD. Over four weeks we will cover a different weekly topic in an area in which there may have been changes, advances or controversy in recent years.
The course is taught and tutored by Liverpool and other external veterinary specialists, following a similar format to the University of Liverpool’s CertAVP modules. With online lectures, discussion boards and weekly MCQ tests designed to help support your learning, this short Small Animal Medicine mini-module will provide a fun and interactive way to ensure you keep up to date in your area of interest.

Week 1: 27 February 2023
Oncology with Fernando Malalana DVM PhD DipECEIM PGCertT&LHE FHEA MRCVS
Sarcoids and Melanoma have always been hot topics of discussion in equine practice but this week Fernando will be focusing on the alternative oncology commonly encountered by clinicians. He will discuss in detail the current treatments available for Lymphoma, ocular and genitourinary neoplasia cases and what as practitioners we can do to manage them.
Week 2: 6 March 2023
Abnormalities of the Peripheral Nervous System with Harry Carslake MA VetMB DipACVIM Dip ECEIM MRCVS
This week Harry will discuss neurology of the head and offer an update on how best to approach and manage these potentially daunting cases. He will start with a practical approach to examination for those of us needing a refresher, before looking closer at the various types of cranial nerve deficits and disorders seen and the current EBM advances in treatment.

Critical Care with April Lawson BSc BVSc MSc CertAVP(EM) DipECEIM AFHEA MECVS
In this section, April will be reviewing a range of critical care topics with the aim of giving practical advice and tips on how to management them in practice. She will cover respiratory distress, including both upper and lower respiratory emergencies and procedures, feeding management of the dysphagic horse and finally antimicrobial use in critical care cases where the evidence, responsibilities and dilemmas surrounding their use will be discussed.
Week 5: 27 March 2023
EGUS and other Gastric Conditions with Richard Hepburn BVSc MS(Hons) CertEM(IntMed) DipACVIM(LA) FRCVS
This week will look at an update on EGUS with a particular focus on updated long-term management and prevention strategies for both ESGD and EGGD. It will also explore the management of refractory cases of gastric disease and the role of more complex pathologies such as delayed gastric emptying and IBD in complex ESGD and EGGD cases.
