Lead Vet – Ecovets
📍 Wandsworth, London SW18
🕒 Full-time, 40 hours per week
💷 £55,000–£62,000 per year, depending on experience
📄 Permanent
Ecovets is an independent small animal practice in Wandsworth, built around calm, thoughtful, client-focused care.
Our clients value us not only for good clinical standards, but for the close relationships we build with them and their pets, and the way we go the extra mile when they need us.
As we grow, we’re looking for an experienced GP vet to help protect that culture while leading the clinical side of the practice day to day.
This could suit someone with strong GP experience who is ready to take that next step. You don’t need to arrive as a “finished” Lead Vet from day one. What matters most is that you have good clinical judgement, enjoy building client relationships, are comfortable being the main vet in the building, and are excited by the idea of helping shape a growing independent practice.
There will be a proper transition period, with support from the practice owner, so you can settle in and build confidence in the leadership side.
The role will involve:
Acting as the main clinical vet day to day
Seeing consults and building strong client relationships
Carrying out routine GP procedures and surgeries
Working sole charge when needed
Supporting the nursing and client care team with clinical questions
Helping keep clinical standards consistent
Reviewing and improving protocols and workflows
Knowing what can be managed in-house and when referral is the best option
You won’t be expected to do advanced referral-level work. We have trusted specialists and referral partners for more complex cases, including orthopaedics, complex soft tissue surgery, imaging and internal medicine advice.
We’re looking for someone who is:
MRCVS registered
Confident with routine GP work
Has at least 3 years of experience
Comfortable working sole charge
Kind, calm and thoughtful
A strong communicator with clients and the team
Interested in clinical standards and doing things properly
Keen to keep developing clinically
Ready to take ownership of the clinical side of the practice
Support around you
You’ll be supported by the practice founder, who will remain clinically involved with a reduced caseload, as well as an experienced nursing team, strong front-of-house support, and external specialists when needed.
You’ll work alongside a supportive team including one vet, two nurses, one CCA and one VCA, giving you the clinical support needed to focus on high-quality medicine.
Working pattern
40 hours per week
5 days per week.
No out-of-hours
No Sundays
Part-time considered
Salary and benefits
£55,000–£62,000 per year, depending on experience
CPD supported
Professional development encouraged
5 weeks holidays + BH
Independent practice environment
Supportive, close-knit team
Opportunity to help shape a growing practice
This is a role for someone who wants more than just a standard vet job.
You’ll have the chance to help lead the clinical direction of an independent practice, build long-term relationships with clients, develop your own skills, and be part of a team that genuinely cares about doing things well.
If you’re an experienced GP vet who is ready for the next step, but wants to do it in a supportive and thoughtful environment, we’d love to hear from you.
