More than 30 staff from the Goddard Veterinary Group, together with suppliers, partners and friends, are taking part in the CRUK Challenge Cancer London 2 Brighton Bike Ride on Sunday 25 September 2016.  They are hoping to raise more than £6,500 for Cancer Research in memory of vet Arthur Goddard, founder of The Goddard Veterinary Group, who died of cancer aged 87 in December 2015.

His son, Philip Goddard, now Practice Principal, commented: “Having initially gone into partnership with fellow vet Peter Allen in 1952, Arthur renamed the practice The Goddard Veterinary Group on Peter’s retirement and we have gone from strength to strength ever since. The practice now encompasses more than 50 sites, including three veterinary hospitals within the M25 area.

“Arthur was a true visionary in the veterinary sector and a remarkable man in many ways.  We lost him in December last year to colon cancer and, because charity bike rides have become something of a tradition here, a group of colleagues suggested that we should take part in the 100 km London to Brighton Bike Ride to raise funds for Cancer Research in his honour.   Of course, I was determined to join them though, as I’d never before ridden more than five miles, I had to buy a bike and start training sharpish!

“We are deeply touched that so many colleagues and friends from the profession have decided to join us or to support us and we hope to reach or even exceed our target, raising funds that will really help to raise awareness of colon cancer and to fund much-needed research into the disease.  It will be a legacy that Arthur would have been proud of.”

Anyone interesting in joining the ride is asked to contact Adrian Hayter at the Mandeville Veterinary Hospital on 020 8845 5677.

The Goddard Veterinary Group has been providing veterinary care for animals across Greater London for 60 years through its network of 50 branches, including three veterinary hospitals.
