The Association for the Scientific Study of Veterinary and Animal Physiotherapy (ASSVAP) is celebrating its first birthday.
ASSVAP was set up 12 months ago to endorse the profession of veterinary physiotherapy through promoting the scientific approach to animal welfare. During this time, the association’s membership had grown, and now comprises vets, vet nurses and veterinary physiotherapists, along with students from all those professions. The interface that ASSVAP provides allows professionals to exchange information, to demonstrate veterinary physiotherapy as an evidence based profession.
“This has been a very exciting 12 months,” says Elizabeth Elliott, secretary of ASSVAP. “Not only have we provided a number of exceptionally popular CPD opportunities to promote veterinary physiotherapy, but we will shortly be announcing a major collaboration with a UK University to provide a BSc in Veterinary Physiotherapy, leading to membership of ASSVAP. We are now the second largest veterinary physiotherapy association in the country, and have recently expanded into the USA and mainland Europe, so the next 12 months are likely to be even more exciting.”
The ASSVAP website www.assvap.com contains everything for the professional who is interested in veterinary physiotherapy, from an online store for books, DVDs and physiotherapy supplies to an increasingly large database of science for members to access. If you would like to know what being a veterinary physiotherapist is like, there is also a video profile of Dr. Gail Williams, ASSVAP’s Senior Consulting Veterinary Physiotherapist. Applications for membership can be made by completing the online form from the website.
