Canine Behaviour basics: Low stress Handling

Consider for a moment, use of the word 'restraint' when we are talking about animal handling. A very common term. What if our doctor told us she needed to 'restrain' our child to take a blood sample? Food for thought?

How many stressed dogs do you see in practice? Barking, panting, fearful and aggressive? Stressed  owners, avoiding the practice as they know their dog 'hates the vets'. Nail clips that need sedating, and seem to get worse every time? How can we make this easier for the pets, the owners, and for us?

ONCORE have developed a new online, two week module with Linda Ryan that looks at this very topic. Do you understand the signs of stress/anxiety and, more importantly, do you know how to alleviate these for the good of all? These are essential skills in providing effective routine and preventative health care for canine patients, safely.

As Linda says, 'For all aspects of care for dogs, including in-practice management - behaviour is EVERYTHING!'

The interactive course will focus on the use of canine-friendly handling techniques and look at dealing with the individual patient and situation, and how we can make general changes to the environment that will simply help many canine patients adapt better in the clinic. You will discuss cases, share thoughts and experiences, and all under the guidance of expert tutor Linda.

We will also explore advice to be given to prepare dogs and owners in advance of visits; to help our clients help their pets.

This course could transform the way you handle dogs in practice, improving the welfare of patients and staff alike!

Next intake - Sept 2015 | Interactive, flexible group course with outcomes that can be taken back and put into practice!
