Bill Bailey, Ruby Turner And Natasha Hamilton Wow Congress Crowds
At BSAVA Congress on Saturday evening, thousands of delegates were delighted by first class entertainment delivered by some of the UK's finest acts. Bill Bailey was first up, and the audience was in stitches as he teased them about their profession. His comedy credentials include a Perrier Award nomination and the prestigious Best Live Stand-up prize at The British Comedy Awards. He’s now a primetime TV favourite, with appearances on quiz shows such as Have I got News for You and Never Mind The Buzzcocks, and most recently in the wildlife conservation series Wild Thing, I love You. Our musical entertainment this year was provided by soul legend Ruby Turner. A huge Congress hit when she performed alongside Jools Holland in 2005, Ruby returned with a voice that has been likened to Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin. She proved a true professional after taking a tumble on stage, but still kept singing without dropping a note. Natasha Hamilton also proved a big hit, and put pay to the idea that former girl band members can't sing. Natasha, who had more than a dozen top-ten hits with Atomic Kitten, sang tracks from her new album as well as some of her former band’s best-known numbers as well as classic covers. Ska Wars demanded that delegates prove their stamina by keeping up the tempo with classic Ska hits like Ghost Town and Baggy Trousers. Those with more energy left were finally exhausted by our regular Congress DJ until 2am. This was one of the most successful and popular party nights ever and sets the bar evening higher for 2008.More from
