Birmingham Vet Hospital Celebrates First Ever VCA Day
Blaise Vet Specialists in Birmingham brought veterinary care assistants together last month for the hospital’s first CPD stream specifically designed for VCAs.
The referral nursing team at Blaise hosted a day of interactive workshops and lectures catering to VCAs across topics including theatre set up, emergency triage and CPR. The sold-out event also had a separate programme which catered specifically to RVNs, with nurses travelling from all over the UK to attend.
“Veterinary care assistants play such an important role here at Blaise and we take their development and on-the-job learning very seriously,” said Kate Flint, head nurse at Blaise Vet Specialists.
“We thought there was gap in the CPD offering for VCAs across the industry and were delighted to see such a positive response. It was a brilliant day, with lots of opportunities for VCAs and nurses alike to get together and work on developing their skill sets while keeping up to date with the latest advancements in veterinary care.
Over £2,400 was raised from ticket sales in support of charity WeCare, which provides animal welfare education programmes in schools and neighbourhoods across Sri Lanka.
Part of the Inspiring Vet Care network of referral hospitals, Blaise Vet Specialists is open 24/7 for referrals from surrounding daytime vet practices and for emergencies. For more information visit www.blaise-referrals.com.
