Born Free Launches Childrens Competition For World Wildlife Day
Children across the world encouraged to ‘make their mark’ for wildlife by creating hand print animals!
International wildlife charity, Born Free Foundation, is launching an exciting competition to mark United Nations World Wildlife Day on 3rd March 2017.
The theme for this year’s World Wildlife Day is ‘Listen to the Young Voices’, and encourages young people around the world to join together to address ongoing major threats to wildlife, including habitat change, over-exploitation and illicit trafficking.
As part of the celebrations, Born Free is asking children and young people to ‘make their mark for wildlife’ by turning their hand print into their favourite wild animal! After creating their masterpiece and taking a photo of it, they simply need to visit www.bornfree.org.uk/wild4life to submit their entry and complete the phrase “I love wildlife because…” in 85 characters or less. Children can enter the competition with just an image, just the text, or both.
The best image will be combined with the best text to make a t-shirt sold in aid of Born Free. The competition opens on 3rd March 2017 and closes on 30th April 2017.
Born Free Foundation Chief Executive, Howard Jones, said: “We all agree that children are the future – but often forget that the world around us is a gift for our common future. World Wildlife Day is a high-spot to remind of us this, and the role we must all play, every day, to ensure that the world we shape is as full and rich, for all life, as the one we were given. Wildlife has no choice in this – it’s our choice and our actions that matter.”
Born Free will be promoting the competition worldwide, including through its Global Friends programme, established in 2003 to enhance environmental education in schools and communities facing significant environmental challenges. Global Friends currently supports some of the needs of 14 schools or community groups in seven countries through small grants, benefitting more than 5,000 people as well as thousands more indirectly.
Born Free also runs the free children’s club Wildcrew – a monthly e-newsletter for all children under the age of 13 full of amazing animals, true stories, fun facts, puzzles and games.
