A first of its kind in veterinary medicine, the Canine Cruciate Registry is to be launched by RCVS Knowledge at a free virtual event on Wednesday, 28 July 2021.

The Canine Cruciate Registry will collect data from veterinary surgeons and owners of dogs recovering from cruciate surgery to better understand which surgical techniques and implants have the best outcomes.

The event will introduce the registry and demonstrate how veterinary surgeons can monitor complications with cruciate surgery, improve outcomes and enhance patient care.

Clinical Lead for the RCVS Knowledge Canine Cruciate Registry, Mark Morton (RCVS Specialist Small Animal Orthopaedics, ChesterGates Veterinary Specialists), will be joined by an impressive line-up of speakers from around the world.

Dr Stanley Kim (Associate Professor in Small Animal Surgery, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida) will present his work on stifle stability, and outcomes post cruciate surgery.

Professor Duncan Lascelles (Professor of Translational Pain Research and Management, North Carolina State University) will discuss how clinicians can assess clinical outcomes in canine patients.

RCVS Knowledge will also welcome Mr Mike McNicholas (Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon), a renowned knee surgeon and a member of the steering group for the UK National Ligament Registry and Chair of ICRS Global Cartilage Treatment Registry. He will share experiences from human orthopaedic surgery and the benefits of registries in improving patient outcomes.

The Canine Cruciate Registry is endorsed by the British Veterinary Orthopaedic Association (BVOA), and all UK vets performing cruciate surgery are encouraged to sign up to the registry.

Veterinary teams, animal owners and anyone with interest in registries is welcome to attend the event: bit.ly/2URTQZb
