Has your cat gone missing?
Cats are notorious for getting themselves into mischief, wandering off and getting lost. Frightening numbers of them go missing every year. In order to shed some more light on this tragic phenomenon, Your Cat magazine and Cats Protection have joined forces this month to launch a survey for anyone who has had a cat that has gone missing.
The survey will try to establish trends and factors relating to pets that go missing. It will also hopefully provide a picture of how best to safely and successfully identify a cat, as well as suggest helpful measures that owners can take to increase the chances of being reunited with a lost pet.
“It can be a devastating experience for a person to lose a much-loved cat and not know what has happened. We get many calls to our Helpline and Lost and Found registers from distressed people about their missing pets, which result in the charity reuniting over 4,000 felines a year with their owners,” said Beth Skillings, Head of Veterinary Services at Cats Protection. “But it’s not always a happy ending and the more light we can shed on the subject, the better we can support and advise owners,” she continued.
Sue Parslow, Editor of Your Cat magazine, agrees; “Our readers are very concerned about this subject and the more useful information we can share, the better. We are very pleased to be working with Cats Protection on this issue and hope that through our combined efforts we will be able to reunite more lost pets with their owners in the future.”
The survey, along with tips on keeping cats safe, appears in the February edition of Your Cat magazine (currently on sale in newsagents and larger supermarkets) and is also available on Cats Protection’s website (www.cats.org.uk) or by email request to [email protected] Closing date for receipt of survey forms is 15 March, 2006. The results of the survey will be published later this year in Your Cat.
