Stephanie Dakin, an equine veterinary surgeon at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), London, who is sponsored by pharmaceutical company Ceva Animal Health, has been awarded a PhD for her studies on the pathogenesis of equine tendinopathy working with Professor Roger Smith and Dr Jayesh Dudhia.
Ceva’s sponsorship of Stephanie is run through the BBSRC Industrial CASE studentship scheme, which involves partnerships between UK-based industrial companies and eligible UK universities or research institutes, to support collaborative postgraduate research. It is the first time that Ceva, the company behind Equidronate a treatment for equine bone disease, has undertaken such an initiative in the UK. It highlights the company’s ongoing commitment to research and development in equine veterinary science.
Stephanie said: “It has been a privilege to undertake this vital research, thanks to the support of the BBSRC and Ceva. I hope that our findings will result in a direct and positive impact on clinical cases of tendinopathy, in equine and possibly human injuries in the future. We have identified potential new therapeutic targets which we hope will ultimately improve management and advance our ability to treat and prevent tendon injuries and thus advance the health and welfare of equine patients.”More from
