Paul Higgs, Chief Veterinary Officer at CVS Group, has been awarded a Fellowship by the RCVS for his meritorious contributions to clinical practice.

He is one of 34 vets UK-wide to be awarded a Fellowship this year. They will be formally welcomed into the college on its annual Fellowship Day in London on 27 November.

Paul is an RCVS recognised and EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine. He became a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2014.

At CVS Paul oversees the quality of care and clinical improvement work in farm, equine and small animal, first opinion and referral divisions. He acts as the clinical lead on responses to national and individual patient issues. Paul’s role is also focused on supporting and building external relations with the wider veterinary profession, liaising with the RCVS and other professional bodies. As part of the group’s aim to further veterinary science and standards of clinical practice, Paul supports the CVS Research Grants, providing funding to universities and internal beneficiaries undertaking clinical research.

Prior to his current role, Paul was Clinical Director at CVS’s Highcroft Referrals Hospital in Bristol, where he still practices. Paul is highly focused on supporting the development of the profession and chaired the Congress Programme Committee at the British Small Animal Veterinary Association until 2023.

Paul said: “The veterinary profession in the UK is renowned world-wide - known for leading on clinical standards and quality improvement. So it is an honour to be awarded a RCVS fellowship for my contributions to clinical practice. I am proud to join those outstanding veterinary colleagues who have already achieved this status.”

CVS Group operates across small animal, farm animal, equine, laboratories and crematoria, with 500 veterinary practices and referral centres in the UK, the Republic of Ireland and the Netherlands. It is committed to providing the best possible care to animals and takes its responsibilities for quality improvement seriously. For more information visit www.cvsukltd.co.uk
