Anne Handy Anne Handy BVetMed (Hons) MRCVS, a second year student CVS UK Ltd has reported a 54% growth in its 2013 graduate intake with 34 first year graduates embarking on its two year New Graduate Training Programme during November 2013. 22 graduates are starting their second year. According to CVS, its graduate programme has been designed to support and develop new graduates in all aspects of their first veterinary role. Extensive clinical CPD is combined with mentor support and the opportunity to work alongside CVS experts in its referral centres, laboratories and emergency clinics. Commenting on her experience, Ms Anne Handy BVetMed (Hons) MRCVS, a second year student, said: "It has proved an ideal transition from the relatively safe environment of University to the real world of being a vet. It has focused on teaching us the basics which all new graduates need; routine operations, ophthalmology, dermatology, emergency and critical care. I've really enjoyed meeting other new graduates each month to compare achievements. The sometimes stressful steep learning curve of the first year on the front line has been made a much more constructive experience. I'm looking forward to the second year and support from CVS in starting a Surgical Certificate next year." Barry Brackner, Regional Director at CVS, comments: "Our graduates are important members of our team and their first two years will shape their future career. The popularity of our New Graduate Programme reflects the effort we make to ensure that it provides a firm foundation to all aspects of practice life and an introduction to the key specialisms. Our graduates also enjoy the camaraderie and opportunity to share experiences with each other. We're constantly developing the New Graduate Programme and are considering opening it up to the wider profession next year as we're receiving many enquiries from outside CVS." Candidates are given the opportunity to join CVS' RCVS Cert Advanced Practitioner Programme once they have successfully completed the New Graduate Training Programme. CVS UK Ltd is the largest and fastest-growing corporate veterinary group in the UK.  Founded in 1999, it employs more than 2,300 staff at its veterinary practices and surgeries across the UK and in its related veterinary businesses, including an online pharmacy, two pet crematoriums and six veterinary laboratories. Key to its success is CVS' ability to attract ambitious veterinary staff and to invest in their clinical skills, knowledge and in research to drive the profession forward.  It also provides the business support to ensure its diverse range of small animal, large animal and equine practices achieve their full potential.  CVS works in close partnership with the wider veterinary profession and industry colleagues.
