CVS has selected Cats Protection as the veterinary group's new colleague Charity of the Year.

Chosen following colleague nominations and a nationwide colleague vote, fundraising for Cats Protection will begin on 1 August.

Over the next 12 months, CVS’ colleagues across its veterinary practices, referral hospitals and support centres will raise funds through a variety of activities, including sponsored events, fundraising initiatives and voluntary client donations through Pennies' digital microdonations in participating CVS Vets practices.

Cats Protection is the UK's largest cat welfare charity, helping thousands of cats and kittens each year through its nationwide network of branches, centres and volunteers.

Funds raised through the partnership will help Cats Protection to care for abandoned, vulnerable and unwanted cats, provide veterinary treatment, support neutering programmes and help more cats find safe, loving homes.

Paul Higgs, Chief Veterinary Officer of CVS Group, said: "As veterinary professionals, we see every day the important role that charities play in supporting animal welfare across the UK.

“Cats Protection carries out invaluable work to improve the lives of cats. We are excited to work alongside the charity over the coming year to make a meaningful contribution to their important work. I know our colleagues will put tremendous energy and enthusiasm into fundraising and awareness-raising activities.”

John May, Chief Executive Officer, Cats Protection, said: "We are delighted to have been chosen by CVS colleagues as their Charity of the Year. This partnership will help us provide vital support for abandoned, vulnerable and unwanted cats, while helping more cats find safe, loving homes.

“The enthusiasm and generosity of CVS’ colleagues will make a real difference, raising essential funds and awareness to support our work across the UK. We look forward to working together over the coming year to improve the lives of cats and the people who care for them."

Throughout the partnership, CVS’ colleagues are expected to organise a wide range of fundraising events including sponsored walks, bake sales, pet-themed fundraising days and local community activities.

Previous CVS’ Charity of the Year partners have included StreetVet, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and Guide Dogs. To date CVS’ clients have donated over £170,000 to charitable causes via Pennies micro donations.

CVS Group operates across small animal, farm animal, equine and laboratory services, with around 500 veterinary practices and referral centres across the UK and Australia. The group continues to invest in its people, facilities and clinical equipment to support the delivery of high-quality veterinary care.
