Davies Vets Attend RCVS Fellowship Day

Six vets at Davies Veterinary Specialists (Davies) were amongst the second cohort of Fellows to be awarded under the new RCVS Fellowship initiative on Friday 20th October at the Royal Institution, London. Davies Small Animal Medicine Specialist Ian Battersby also joined the prestigious panel of speakers on the day, to give a talk on rabies control around the world.

Broadcaster, anatomist and archaeologist Professor Alice Roberts delivered the keynote address on the revolutionary impact of domesticated animals on human society. In the afternoon six Fellows gave short ‘TED’ Talk style ‘Fellows in focus’ presentations on topics close to their hearts. Ian Battersby, as a trustee and specialist medicine consultant for Mission Rabies chose to give a brief overview of rabies control in underdeveloped countries and outlined some of the successful strategies implemented by Mission Rabies.

Ian said: ‘”It was an honour to receive the Fellowship alongside so many friends and colleagues and fantastic to have the opportunity to speak to the fellowship on Mission Rabies. To present in the world famous Faraday Lecture theatre (that I used to watch on TV when I was a kid) is an experience I will never forget.”

Ian and his Davies colleagues were six of 50 veterinary surgeons to become RCVS Fellows this year. Ian Battersby BVSc FRCVS DSAM DipECVIM  - RCVS and European Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Medicine and Director, Dr Clive Elwood MA VetMB MSc PhD FRCVS CertSAC DipACVIM DipECVIM - Managing Director, Laurent Garosi DVM FRCVS DipECVN - RCVS and European Veterinary Specialist in Neurology, Head of Neurology, David Gould BSc (Hons) BVM&S PhD FRCVS DVOphthal DipECVO - RCVS and European Veterinary Specialist in Ophthalmology, Head of Ophthalmology and Nat Whitley BVMS PhD FRCVS CertVC DipACVIM DipECVIM - RCVS and European Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Medicine, Head of Medicine were awarded Fellowships for Meritorious Contributions to Clinical Practice.In addition Dr Jerry Davies BVetMed PhD FRCVS DVR DipECVS DipECVDI - Director and Founder of Davies was awarded a Fellowship for Meritorious Contributions to the Profession.
