Dechra Academy has launched a new ‘Purrfect Partner’ interactive CPD series to update and refresh vets on the importance of managing and treating unintended weight loss in feline patients.

The free six-part series features short, half hour modules presented by leading European Specialists.  It kicks off with a module on ‘Feline anorexia in clinical practice’ by Tommaso Furlanello Dr Med Vet, PhD, EBVS®European Specialist in Veterinary Clinical Pathology and clinical director at San Marco Veterinary Clinic and Laboratory in Veggiano, Italy who provides an overview of feline inappetence in clinical practice.  During the session, Tommaso reviews the importance of measuring appetite, the causes and consequences of inappetence and the therapeutic options available to provide support to feline patients.

The subsequent five sessions enable learners to work through a variety of real-life, interactive patient case studies featuring complex underlying conditions to allow vets to practice their clinical decision making and how they would manage the unintended weight loss.  These include sessions on chronic diseases such as chronic kidney failure (CKD) and cancer and a module by Sam Taylor BVetMed(Hons), CertSAM, DipECVIM-CA, MANZCVS, FRCVS, head of veterinary specialists at International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM)

By completing modules one and two, vets will unlock four further modules to gain their ‘Purrfect Partner’ accreditation.

Dechra Academy is the first and only veterinary education provider to be awarded as an internationally recognised and peer-reviewed accredited Learning Provider by the Learning and Performance Institute (LPI).  The Academy was first established in the UK in 2010 and has since launched in over 20 additional countries across the world.  Last year, over 5,000 veterinary professionals in the UK completed over 9,000 courses and there is currently over 60 hours of free CPD content available across the company’s key therapy areas including endocrinology, dermatology, analgesia and anaesthesia, nutrition, equine analgesia and anaesthesia and locomotion.

During 2022, the company added 14 new courses to Dechra Academy covering analgesia and anaesthesia, dermatology, nutrition, internal medicine, vaccines and udder health.
