Dechra Hosts Strangles And Equine Disease Management Webinars
Dechra is hosting a series of free equine panel discussion webinars to provide veterinary professionals with new insights into strangles and equine disease management.
Featuring prominent equine medicine clinicians and behavioural researchers, the live webinars will be available as podcasts and will also be able to be viewed on demand on the Dechra Academy.
The first webinar takes place at 20:00 GMT on Tuesday 18 February and focuses on ‘Strangles: new insights, vaccine impact and managing outbreaks’. It features leading veterinary experts, Dave Rendle, Gayle Hallowell and Richard Newton, who will explore the current landscape of strangles control, focusing on the role of vaccination, testing and quarantine measures. The panel will discuss the evidence base for vaccination as an alternative to traditional methods like premovement testing and quarantine and will examine its potential impact on managing outbreaks and reducing risk. The session will also address the emotional challenges surrounding vaccine hesitancy among horse owners and explore strategies to increase confidence and uptake. Finally, the panel will highlight the importance of targeted approaches in managing strangles, including how vaccination can be used to manage outbreaks effectively.
Taking place at 20:00 GMT on Tuesday 25 February, the ‘Things I wish I’d known sooner in equine disease management’ webinar will provide a valuable insight into chronic disease management and preventative vaccination to improve uptake and optimise treatment outcomes. It will feature a panel of prominent equine vets and behavioural researchers including Gayle Hallowell, Dave Rendle and Tamzin Furtado and the session will utilise real-life case studies to examine situations when owners might stop prescribed medications prematurely. The discussion will cover understanding chronic medical diseases such as PPID from both vet and owner perspectives, exploring how miscommunication could impact long-term care. Preventative strategies, including evidence supporting strangles vaccination will also be discussed, alongside potential barriers such as the misconception of cost as a major objection. The session will conclude with actionable advice on building better owner-vet concordance through clear, empathetic conversations.
Both webinars broadcast from 20:00 GMT, feature a live Q&A session from 20:45 GMT and conclude at 21:15 GMT. To register or for further information go to https://membership.elearning.vet/Dechra-equine-medicine-series.
