Dechra has launched an innovative, new Endocrinology App to help vets diagnose and manage the endocrine disorders Addison’s disease (hypoadrenocorticism) and Cushing’s syndrome in their canine patients.

The comprehensive App, which was produced utilising data from the Royal Veterinary College’s VetCompass database, will enable vets to stay ahead of the latest advancements in veterinary endocrinology.  It features an easy-to-use interface and up-to-date information on the latest diagnostic guides, treatment options and recommended monitoring protocols for these two endocrine disorders.

The handy App is the ultimate tool for busy veterinary professionals and provides extensive resources to help vets better understand endocrinology and stay up to date with the latest information from Dechra.  Key features for Addison’s disease include a step-by-step guide to diagnosis, Dechra’s ‘5 Golden Guidelines’ for treating Addison’s and an interactive monitoring algorithm, making the condition easier to understand and manage.  Key features for Cushing’s syndrome include a prediction tool to aid diagnosis, developed in conjunction with the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), plus treatment and monitoring guidelines.

Dr Dan O’Neill, Associate Professor for Companion Animal Epidemiology at the RVC, says: “The RVC VetCompass team was delighted to be involved in developing the science underpinning the new Endocrinology App from Dechra.

“Cushing’s syndrome can be a very challenging disorder to diagnose; the new Endocrinology App aims to assist veterinary surgeons to decide on how likely a patient is to have Cushing’s and whether further investigations for the disorder might be warranted.

“The Endocrinology App is based around a machine learning form of AI utilising anonymised clinical records from millions of dogs within the RVC’s VetCompass database. By applying the latest AI technology developed by the RVC’s VetCompass team, the App is designed to assist primary care veterinary surgeons to better detect and diagnose Cushing’s syndrome.  The App provides a guide to the probability of Cushing’s syndrome as an explanation in patients showing likely and unlikely clinical signs for Cushing’s.

“Based on the power of big data using veterinary clinical records from millions of UK dogs in RVC VetCompass, Dechra’s new Endocrinology App aims to help primary care veterinary surgeons have greater confidence in diagnosing Cushing’s syndrome.”

Claire Westoby, companion animal brand manager at Dechra, adds: "The diagnosis and management of endocrine disorders is not always straightforward; the launch of the new Endocrinology App will help vets navigate this complex field with more confidence and ease and will be a valuable tool in diagnosing, treating and monitoring Addison’s disease and Cushing’s syndrome.”

Dechra is committed to providing vets with innovative tools and resources to improve animal health outcomes and continues to demonstrate its commitment to advancing veterinary medicine and improving animal health.

The Dechra Endocrinology App is available for free download on both Apple and Android devices. Vets can access the App's features and resources at any time, making it a convenient and valuable tool to have on hand.

To download the App, search Dechra Endocrinology App on either the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
