To celebrate International Women’s Day on Friday 8th March 2024, Veterinary Woman, the online platform founded to inspire and support women in the veterinary industry to reach their career potential, is launching a free, downloadable eBook. ‘Champions for Change’ brings together profiles of sixteen inspirational people, nominated by their peers, who are making a difference and creating positive change for women in the veterinary sector.

International Women’s Day 2024 aims to ‘Inspire Inclusion’, to bring a sense of belonging, relevance and empowerment and collectively forge a more inclusive world for women. Areas in the veterinary profession where actions can be taken to #InspireInclusion include recruiting, retaining and developing female talent, building women’s economic empowerment, supporting women into leadership, decision-making and business, and creating infrastructure that meets the needs of women.

Veterinary Woman’s ‘Champions for Change’ eBook highlights some of the ways this is happening right now in practice and beyond. Profiles include Dr Katrin Jahn, who is paving the way for female veterinary professionals in the Middle East and Dr Jyotika Sangle, working in regulatory affairs in India, where the importance of the veterinary profession is not well understood and is not considered to be a career choice for women.

Also profiled is Perdi Welsh, who is working to enhance career progression options for veterinary nurses and Samantha Lympany-Tier, who is advocating for the role of veterinary care assistants and patient emotional welfare in clinical practice. ‘Champions for Change’ features many other individuals and their organisations who are taking the initiative to encourage confidence and wellbeing, expand career opportunities, address challenges, promote diversity and empower progress.

Veterinary Woman editor, Jenny Langridge, said, “When we’re feeling worn down by work pressures it can be difficult to envisage change for the better, but the veterinary professions are bursting with people driving innovation and development in many different ways. I hope that our ‘Champions for Change’ eBook will help vet professionals of all types to find inspiration from the stories of the amazing efforts taking place within the sector to drive new thinking and improvements to wellbeing, career prospects, equality and inclusivity.”
