Coming to Kickstarter this November, Felcana, the first ecosystem of pet health monitoring smart devices.

Felcana listens to your pet. The ecosystem of smart devices monitors your pet’s health, activities, and behaviour. The subscription free system has been developed by vets, as well as former Dyson and Raspberry Pi engineers, all with experience creating revolutionary products.

Felcana is an innovation in the pet healthcare industry. More than just an activity tracker, Felcana can detect changes in eating and drinking levels, highlight indicators of a pet’s wellbeing, such as increased anxiety levels, as well as detect key symptoms of disease such as lethargy. Felcana reassures owners that their pet is fit, healthy and happy, and supports vets to make more accurate and earlier diagnoses.

Felcana has three core components:

Dr James Andrews, vet and inventor of Felcana:

“As vets we can struggle to get the low down from our canine and feline friends. Even the most devoted owner can’t answer every single question we might have. Felcana sheds light on clinical blind spots, providing hard data for vets and peace of mind for owners. We don’t have to ask how much water a dog is drinking, we know. It means quicker, more certain treatment.”

Vets depend on owner observations, but in the absence of accurate data, diagnosis relies too much on guesswork. By detecting behavioural changes and monitoring quality of life, Felcana’s patented technology predicts, analyses and reports patterns and indicators of illness and disease. Felcana’s core elements are Helix, the smart collar device, micro-location Beacons, to detect where your pet is, and the Home Hub, Helix’s charger and your pet’s data nest.

The ecosystem functions in the following way:

Helix. The Helix smart collar device continuously monitors pet behaviour and activity, and connects with the Felcana Home Hub and Beacons. The easily removable device is robust and rechargeable – simply unclip it from the collar and charge on the Hub. Helix is kitted out with practical features too, including the Flashback Light, a remotely activated light with settings including the Invisible Leash.

Micro-Location Beacons. Owners place Felcana Beacons in any location they want, such as a pet’s feeding bowls, cat flaps, and pet beds. These discrete devices, collect more data on behavioural habits, and feed it back to Helix.

Home Hub. The Home Hub enables Felcana’s components to work within a 200m range, meaning your pet is always connected, even in the largest of homes. The Hub is also designed to perfectly nest the Helix device when charging.

App. Helix, the Beacons and the Home Hub are controlled through the free Felcana app. Here, owners can keep track of all their pet’s data, and access health insights. These health insights are computed using intelligent machine learning and cloud computing to track, analyse and predict trends in a pet’s behaviour, and when these trends change. Felcana not only understands key signs of illness in every pet, it also picks up on a pet’s individuality and tailors insights to that pet’s unique habits and personality.

Owners live busy lives. Naturally, even when apart, they want to check their pet is in good shape. The free Felcana app gives real-time visibility. Not only can owners see that their pet is sleeping, they can see where in the house, how long for, and better understand how their pet is spending the day.

Vets want and need useful clinical data for faster decision making, and better treatment. Felcana not only provides recent, reliable information on individual pets including long and short-term activity trends, but can even pinpoint symptoms and indicators of polydipsia, lethargy, and hip dysplasia. The Felcana ecosystem is also constantly gathering data that vets can use to understand health patterns across different populations, species, and breeds.

Mr Ian Stroud BVSc MRCVS, a practising veterinary surgeon and owner of Vet4Life veterinary clinics:

"Data in veterinary practice will be so important in the future. We need to know this information. It makes all the difference for our assessment of how cases are progressing, and if there are problems in the first place."

Felcana: Great for owners, great for vets, and most importantly, great for pets.
