HORIBA UK Veterinary has invited feline veterinary expert, Dr Samantha Taylor BVetMed (Hons) CertSAM DipECVIM-CA FRCVS, to present at its latest online CPD webinar for vets and nursing staff. As an RCVS Recognised Specialist in Feline Medicine, Sam is well placed to discuss ‘Feline Infectious Peritonitis - Not so new treatments for FIP: what have we learnt?’ on Thursday 24th November from 19:30 GMT. Free registration and further information are available at HORIBA UK’s website and also at: https://bit.ly/3U9nt12

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a viral disease of cats that occurs globally. It is a complex disease to diagnose and was previously fatal in most cases. However, in the last three years, significant developments have occurred in treatment and now many cats can be cured.  Sam will discuss the steps in making a confident diagnosis of FIP, the complexities of treatment with anti-virals, monitoring, adverse effects and prognosis.

“We look forward to welcoming Sam to our next webinar as she is highly qualified to provide very useful insight into FIP and its associated complexities. She has published on many areas and is currently working on FIP, having set up and now runs with other feline specialists, the FIP advice line which has helped over 600 vets use the newly available treatments,” said Paul Lymer, HORIBA’s Veterinary Business Manager.

Sam graduated from the RVC and undertook internships in private practice. She then completed a residency at University of Bristol, School of Veterinary Science, and became a European Specialist in Internal Medicine and also a RCVS Recognised Specialist in Feline Medicine. Additionally, she is the International Society of Feline Medicine's specialist veterinary consultant and works in education for the Linnaeus veterinary group.

Following Sam’s presentation, there will be an open Q&A session with her to discuss any specific questions on FIP from attendees. In addition, HORIBA’s team of veterinary specialists will be available to discuss and advise on any diagnostics testing needs. For example, HORIBA’s rapid and easy-to-use, benchtop veterinary PCR system, the POCKIT™ Central, offers in-house automated PCR testing to enable fast diagnostics in veterinary care. It currently offers over 190 assays for the immediate identification of pathogens, including many feline specific diagnostic tests, such as FCoV (feline coronavirus), the causative agent of FIP.
