Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists, a small animal referral hospital in Alton, Hampshire, has celebrated a successful first year with a BBQ for staff and the cutting of a special anniversary cake.

Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists was created from a former out-of-town office building in Alton by CVS, the UK's fastest growing practice.   It occupies 1,300 square metres and employs nine referral clinicians, including four boarded specialists, two board-eligible clinicians, together with night vets, support and admin staff.  Between them, they offer a range of advanced diagnostics and treatments for dogs and cats across a range of specialties, including high-field MRI and CT scanning, keyhole surgery, interventional cardiac procedures and joint replacements.

Cardiology specialist Dr Luca Ferasin is Lumbry Park's Clinical Director and reports to Professor John Innes, CVS' Referral Director.  Dr Ferasin said:  It’s just a year since our team came together in preparation for the official opening of Lumbry Park on Saturday 10 October 2015. Creating the hospital from scratch was a huge project but, with that now behind us, I’m delighted to say that our first year of operation has been characterised by a steady increase in referral cases, led by a strong and continuing case load in Cardiology, Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Orthopaedics and Soft Tissue Surgery.

“Because of the great facilities and working environment we offer, we are proud to have built an enthusiastic and highly skilled team and to have attracted specialists from all over the world, including Dr Robert Matus, American Diplomate in Veterinary Oncology."

He added: “The glorious weather was just too good an opportunity to miss to get the team together for a BBQ and anniversary celebration.  I am grateful to them all for their commitment and dedication this year and we are now setting our sights on even greater success in our second year.”

Key to its success is CVS' ability to attract ambitious veterinary staff and to invest in their clinical skills, knowledge and in research to drive the profession forward.  It also provides the business support to ensure its diverse range of small animal, large animal and equine practices achieve their full potential.   CVS' guiding principles include a commitment to excellence in all aspects of its work and a focus on building long-term relationships with its customers and suppliers.  The company works in close partnership with the wider veterinary profession and industry colleagues.
