CVS has appointed its first Director of Nursing in a move designed to champion the role of veterinary nurses within the UK’s largest and fastest growing veterinary group and to ensure that they receive the opportunities and support they need to enable them to build a long-term career with CVS.

Following qualification from the Royal Veterinary College, Mrs Belinda Andrews-Jones gained experience in both the UK and Australia, working in general practice, small animal and mixed practice, as well as in a referral setting.  She joins CVS from the Royal Veterinary College Queen Mother Hospital, where she was Senior Nurse in the Emergency and Critical Care Department and a Clinical Educator.

Mrs Andrews-Jones holds the RCVS Diploma in Advanced Surgical Nursing and is a member of the Academy of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Technicians Specialists.  She speaks regularly at conferences on veterinary nursing issues, has authored two BSAVA nursing book chapters and is completing a Master’s degree in veterinary education.  She reports to CVS Director of Practice Operations Mrs Karyn MacKenzie.

Commenting on her appointment Mrs Andrews-Jones said: “Our veterinary nurses are the cornerstone of CVS and fundamental to our continued success and expansion.  In my new role, I aim to ensure that every one of them feels empowered to reach their full potential and is passionate about the importance of their role in their practice and to CVS as a whole.  I will also be looking at every aspect of our nurses’ work to ensure that we remain abreast of the latest thinking and are providing a truly exceptional level of nursing to our patients.”

Mrs MacKenzie added: “Providing strong leadership to all of our teams is very important to CVS and we felt the time was right for our fast-growing team of veterinary nurses across the UK to have a highly experienced individual dedicated to representing them at the most senior level in the company.

“Belinda brings great experience and a huge passion for veterinary nursing to us and we have no doubt that she will be a fantastic and inspirational leader for our nurses.  We are delighted to welcome her.”

Key to its success is CVS' ability to attract ambitious veterinary staff whilst continuing to invest in the development of their clinical skills and in research to drive the profession forward.  It also provides the business support to ensure its diverse range of small animal; large animal and equine practices achieve their full potential.  CVS' guiding principles include a commitment to excellence in all aspects of its work and a focus on building long-term relationships with its customers and suppliers.  The company works in close partnership with the wider veterinary profession and industry colleagues.
