The SPILLERSTM brand is showcasing a bright new bag for its gastric health favourite SPILLERS Ulca Fibre, to help broaden the product’s appeal to even more leisure riders. It may be all change on the outside of the bag but it’s the same much-loved fibre inside.
Every horse owner should be aware of Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS) because it isn’t just confined to high performing sports horses. Leisure horses can also be affected and could benefit from a feed specifically designed to help support horses prone to gastric ulcers following veterinary treatment.
Reduced forage intake and diets high in starch and sugar have been shown to increase the potential for ulcers. The splashing of gastric acid onto the lining of the non-glandular region of the stomach during exercise can also heighten the risk.
“Basing the diet on forage and restricting the amount of starch and sugar fed per day and per meal are key to reducing the risks of non-glandular ulcers,” said Sarah Nelson Product Manager at Mars Horsecare, home of the SPILLERS brand. “We recommend advising your customers to choose feeds based on fibre and oil if their horse needs a high calorie feed."
