PetSavers, a division of the British Small Animal Veterinary Association’s dedicated to improving the health of pets, is once again running its popular digital photographic competition and invites entries from vets and their clients up to Thursday 31st January 2013. This year’s theme is ‘Priceless Moments’ and judges will be looking for qualities like humour and character in the photos, as well as photographic skill. We have had some really creative entries in the past, so visit the PetSavers website to see what has caught the judge’s eye in the past. The photography competition is open to all UK and Ireland residents who are amateur photographers, including pet owners, vets and veterinary nurses. Entrants will be judged in two categories: Adult, 16 and over and Junior, under 16. Entry to the competition is free to all via the PetSavers website. A maximum of one entry per person is allowed prizes will be awarded in the form of a photography vouchers to the top three photos from each category, 1st prize = £200, 2nd prize = £100, 3rd prize = £50. The PetSavers competition is a great way to introduce pet owners to the charity that supports research into the health problems, which affect small animals – and perhaps even their own pets. PetSavers’ main aim is to provide vets with a better understanding of the illnesses that affect pets, find cures for diseases, and allow vets to administer the best treatments, ensuring pets enjoy longer and healthier lives. The charity itself has funded numerous studies into the treatment of disease and it is important to note that all PetSavers studies do not use experimental animals. A series of posters are available from PetSavers to promote the competition in veterinary practices. These offer an excellent way to educate pet owners and to get them involved in a fun, free and exciting competition. The standard of previous competitions was very high and the involvement of younger pet owners is always welcomed and encouraged. Full entry details can be found at www.petsavers.org.uk Finalists will be notified at the end of March 2013. Winners will be invited to the BSAVA Congress 4th April to 7th April 2013 to be presented with their prizes. All finalist photographs will be exhibited throughout the four-day event at the ICC and NIA in Birmingham, and the results will be published on the PetSavers website.
