If you want healthier horses please join our Survey urges Blue Cross

Blue Cross, together with the UK’s other key equestrian organisations, is urging all horse owners and keepers to support better horse health by participating in the National Equine Health Survey between 23 – 30 May 2016. The charity has launched a thought provoking social media campaign this month to raise awareness of the importance of the survey and the results it generates.

The National Equine Health Survey (NEHS) is one of the UK’s most significant equine disease monitoring initiatives and last year survey records were returned for almost 15,000 horses ponies, donkeys and mules.  It’s the only project of its kind, enabling horse owners to give anonymous feedback about the health of their horses, ponies and donkeys so that the most common diseases and problems be identified, prioritised and addressed. It takes no more than five minutes to complete the survey online and all details will always remain anonymous so there’s nothing to stop you registering now.

Lameness has been the most commonly reported problem in the past three surveys so this year Blue Cross has picked it as the hot topic for a thought provoking social media campaign. Follow Blue Cross on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/events/462388927293519/ to learn more about types of lameness from pictures and then read the vet’s explanation to help you build your knowledge and horse care skills.

NEHS is run annually by charity Blue Cross, in partnership with the British Equine Veterinary Association and with the support of many of the country’s leading equestrian charities and organisations. The results are referenced in leading veterinary and equestrian publications and papers and are regarded as valuable benchmarks for our general knowledge of horse health.

Zoetis UK Ltd and Dodson & Horrell are generously sponsoring NEHS to help Blue Cross cover the costs of running the scheme. Equestrian organisation that have pledged their support include the ABRS, BEF, BETA, BHS, BSJA, Equestrian Needs, HAPPA, Horses4Homes, Horse Trust, LANTRA, Mare and Foal Sanctuary, Metropolitan Mounted Police, NEWC, Pet id equine, Redwings, Rossdales, RSPCA, SWHP, TBA, World Horse Welfare and WPCS.

Everyone who takes part will have the chance to win some amazing prizes including a pair of Lister Star clippers, a pair of tickets to the Olympia The International Horse Show in December and a pair of Ariat Skyline GTX boots.  To visit the full list of prizes visit https://www.bluecross.org.uk/125014/Prizes-forNEHS.html
