Veterinary experts at one of the country’s top animal hospitals have saved a golden retriever puppy which was rushed to them as an emergency out-of-hours case after suffering a sudden onset of vomiting.
Ten-month-old Ellie received the lifesaving treatment for acute gastroenteritis at Linnaeus-owned Wear Referrals in Bradbury and spent a total of four days with the leading referral centre.
When Ellie arrived at Wear she was critically ill and was hospitalised within Wear’s intensive care unit where she received round-the-clock care.
Chiara Giannasi, head of internal medicine at Wear, said: “Ellie collapsed after suffering with a sudden onset of vomiting and was rushed to us for our expert team to investigate.
“It was suspected Ellie was suffering from acute gastroenteritis, making her very, very poorly.
“She received the utmost care in our dedicated intensive care unit and looked after 24 hours a day until she was well enough to go home.
“The good news is that Ellie has made a great recovery and she is much improved. As part of her treatment, she recently came back in for her recheck and was thrilled with all the attention from the team – she was definitely the star of the show!”
