Students are invited to apply to join the next cohort to study for the Veterinary Management Group’s Veterinary Practice Administration Certificate (VPAC).  The qualification, aimed at those new to management or transferring to a role in veterinary practice from another sector, equips students with the skills and knowledge to fulfil an administrative role in practice with minimal supervision. The next cohort will begin the course on April 1 2020.  Applications must be received by no later than 31 March.

More than 450 students have successfully completed the qualification which is delivered through distance-learning by the Dorchester-based Lynwood School of Veterinary Nursing.  The nine modules covered in the 12-18-month VPAC programme include:

·         Finance

·         Information technology

·         Marketing

·         HR

·         Ethics and statutory requirements.

Commenting on the VPAC, VMG Certification and Training Committee member Mr Matthew Horobin CVPM, said: “The breadth of knowledge required to administrate a busy vet practice has grown extraordinarily over the last few years in line with changes in the profession.  The broad base of the VPAC makes it a great first step on the ladder for those keen to build a career in practice administration and, ultimately, practice management.  Many student nurses already study for it as part of their degree qualification.

“We’re delighted to be working with Lynwood to deliver the VPAC. The varied programme proves very popular with delegates who particularly enjoy the modules on marketing and finance.  We’re looking forward to welcoming a new cohort to start the programme in April.  For those who would like to study for it but can’t begin in April, there is a second opportunity to apply in October.”

Lisa Hurst, Senior Administration Assistant at Woodcroft Veterinary Group, who completed the VPAC in September 2019, said: “The VPAC has really developed my knowledge and skills in veterinary practice administration.  It has also opened my eyes to new aspects of the role which I had previously been reluctant to explore.  Armed with my new knowledge, I’m looking forward to taking on a more active role in the management of our surgery.”

For those with more experience in practice management, the VMG also offers the industry-standard Certificate in Practice Management.

The Veterinary Management Group (VMG) is the UK's leading association for those working in leadership and management roles in the veterinary sector.  A not-for-profit organisation, it works to champion the professional and personal development of those in the veterinary profession through CPD, networking, certified management accreditation and the provision of educational resources.
