Tim Charlesworth, an RCVS recognised Specialist in Soft Tissue surgery and Head of Surgery at Eastcott Referrals, has been appointed Chairman of the Academic Board for the International School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies (ISVPS), which accredits veterinary training courses and awards qualifications to veterinary practitioners and nurses around the world.  In this role, he will oversee ISVPS’ academic quality and governance globally, with support from the Academic Board members.

ISVPS has awarded more than 5,700 postgraduate qualifications around the world, with the range of Certificates it offers increasing to support veterinary professionals at every stage of their career. ISVPS works closely with veterinary continuing education providers, including Improve International and SCIVAC – with Harper Adams University providing the higher education body quality assurance in the UK.

Tim Charlesworth qualified from Cambridge University in 2001 and gained the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2006. He then completed an alternate route residency towards the RCVS Diploma in small animal, soft tissue surgery (DSAS-ST), passing the exams in 2012. Tim works full-time as a referral soft tissue surgeon and has particular interests in minimally invasive surgery, advanced wound reconstruction, ENT and oncological surgeries. Tim has previously been an examiner for the RCVS at both certificate and diploma levels and is a current examiner for ISVPS.

Commenting, he said: “I’m delighted to take up the role of Chairman of the Academic Board of ISVPS and I’m looking forward to helping spearhead its excellent work. I have been an ISVPS examiner for a number of years and this experience will stand me in good stead to make a meaningful contribution as Chairman. I see it as a fabulous opportunity to be more involved with developing new systems of postgraduate education to further extend ISVPS’ key role in supporting professional development within the veterinary sector.”

Dr Sheila Wills, Director of ISVPS, added: “It is a time of rapid growth for ISVPS as we fulfil our vision to become the world's leading provider of veterinary postgraduate qualifications.

“The range of Certificate programmes we accredit is increasing significantly. We are also introducing enhancements to the examination process in order to deliver the highest quality experience, while supporting candidates in assimilating their new skills and knowledge. Tim joins us as Chairman at an exciting time. We are delighted to welcome him and look forward to his contribution.”
