New Galastop® IPhone Application To Calculate The Optimal Date For Spaying

Ceva Animal Health UK has launched a handy new Galastop® iPhone Application to calculate the optimal date for spaying in order to reduce the risk of post-operative false pregnancy. Simply select the end of oestrus date (when the last season finished) and the Galastop App will calculate when to spay, i.e. 16 weeks later. It is important not to spay a bitch during a false pregnancy as otherwise post-operative chronic pseudopregnancy may develop, which can last longer and be more resistant to standard treatment. However, unfortunately, some cases of false pregnancy can be silent and difficult to detect. Product manager at Ceva Animal Health UK, Fraser Broadfoot MRCVS, explains further: “It is commonly recommended to wait until 12 weeks after the end of oestrus before spaying. However, silent pseudopregnancy can still occur at this stage so, to be on the safe side, many specialists are now recommending spaying later at 16 weeks after the end of oestrus.” The free, timesaving App is called ‘Galastop’ and is available now from the iTunes store.
