Janssen Animal Health has launched a new probiotic/prebiotic range to help promote beneficial bacteria and improve the overall gastrointestinal health in dogs.
Kaodyn™, Benedyn™ and Fiberdyn™ from Janssen Animal Health’s vet-exclusive Fidavet range contain a combination of probiotic and prebiotic ingredients. These include the probiotic, Enterococcus faecium NCIMB 10415 E1707, and the prebiotics, Fructo-OligoSaccharides and Mannan-OligoSaccharides (FOS and MOS). Enterococcus faecium NCIMB 10415 E1707 produces lactic acid to help lower the gut pH making it less sustainable for E.coli and Salmonella spp, while FOS can promote the growth of good bacteria and reduction of pathogens and MOS helps prevent pathogenic colonisation and increases immunity levels. Other ingredients in Kaodyn™ consist of kaolin, to soothe upset stomachs and absorb toxins making stools less liquid, and pectin, a soluble dietary fibre which reduces pH and soothes irritated mucosa.
Fidavet’s probiotic/prebiotic products are available in a variety of versatile presentations to provide veterinary surgeons with a wide choice of solutions which can be tailored for their clients’ needs. Kaodyn™ is a palatable syringeable paste which provides a rapid response to help maintain gut microflora balance; Benedyn™ is a 10-day course of gelatine capsules which can be fed whole or sprinkled on food in conjunction with antibiotics and Fiberdyn™ is a complementary feed supplement with soluble and insoluble fibre which can be used on an ongoing basis to encourage normal gut function.
