North Yorkshire Vet Is New Star In TV Series

A vet from White Cross Vets in Redcar is the new star in the fifth season of long running TV series, Vet on the Hill.
Dr Louisa Lane is the clinic director at White Cross Vets in Redcar and is now one of the lead vets on Vet on the Hill, which was previously on Channel 4 and is now streamed to a vast audience on both YouTube and Facebook.
The show first aired in 2016 and followed Dr Scott Miller as he helped all types of patients at his practice in the outskirts of London in Richmond upon Thames. Since then, the show has grown, and the latest series features vets from four UK practices.
Louisa was invited to participate in the show after the production team saw her Instagram page, @louisa_the_vet, where she regularly posts pictures and details of interesting cases, as well as educational content, to almost 40,000 followers.
The five episodes that make up the fifth season of Vet on the Hill have already been streamed more than 700,000 times on YouTube alone in recent weeks.
Louisa said: “Being invited to be part of Vet on the Hill was a lovely moment and a huge honour. I grew up watching veterinary shows and to now be participating in one, as well as highlighting what life is like as a vet, is hugely rewarding.
“The crew filmed us for a couple of days each month over summer, which was very exciting for our team and it was surprising how quickly we all got used to the cameras being there. We saw a wide range of cases, that were a mix of patients that unexpectedly came in on the day, as well as clients that were pre-booked for various procedures.
“These included pet cat, Merlin, who had to have his leg amputated after being hit by a car, a puppy who was passing blood, a dog suffering with severe heat stroke and a whole host of other cases.”
Louisa added: “Since the show went live, the feedback we’ve received from pet owners, other veterinary industry professionals, social media followers and everyone else has been extremely positive, and we hope people continue to enjoy watching it. The production team are already talking about filming a sixth season with us at the start of next year, which is very exciting.”
