NORTHAMPTON VETS WIN PRESTIGIOUS AWARD

A veterinary practice in Northampton is one of only a handful to receive a prestigious national award from the profession’s UK governing body.
Vets4Pets Northampton gained an ‘outstanding’ accreditation from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), for its brilliant emergency and critical care services.
Representatives from the surgery were recently honoured with the award at the British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) Congress.
The practice was chosen for the award after achieving the highest standards of care in Northamptonshire for small animals in critical care, accidents and emergencies.
Owner and veterinary surgeon at Vets4Pets Northampton, Jenny Millington, said: “We are incredibly proud to receive the Outstanding in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care award this year.
“We found out about our win on the day of our inspection, and although we had spent months preparing for it, it was still such a lovely surprise to gain an outstanding rating from the inspector.
“A few of our team attended the awards ceremony and got to meet the RCVS president. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening and it was such a great reward for all our hard work and dedication.
“As a practice, we are constantly working hard to provide the best service possible to our local pets and their owners, and for me and my team to be recognised for our experience, skill and training by our veterinary peers at the RCVS was such an honour.”
To help provide the best service possible to local pets, Vets4Pets Northampton is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and has invested a significant amount in additional equipment, training and medicines for emergency cases.
“Pets can’t choose when to get ill, so being open 24/7 allows us to be there for them and provide immediate veterinary care whenever they need to see us,” added Jenny.
“I am very proud that our patients can be seen by a member of our team whatever day of the week, whatever time of day, and clients value this service immensely, particularly as it is the same service at the same standard price.
“We have bought extra equipment to enable advanced diagnostics and procedures to be carried out on site, reducing the need for pets to travel to specialist centres.
“We also accept referrals from other local practices with complex cases, as our team have the skills and experience to treat these pets effectively.”
Jenny has also attained an Advanced Practitioner award in small animal practice. To achieve this status, she completed her Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice and had to undertake modules in Consultation Skills, Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance, as well as complete over 250 hours of CPD.
Jenny is one of only seven vets in the country, and the only one in Northamptonshire, to have the GP version of the Advanced Practitioner status.
“Looking to the future, I just want to be able to offer the pet owners of Northamptonshire a great veterinary practice to bring their pets to,” said Jenny.
“We want to invest even more in further equipment and training for our team, so that we can provide the most cutting edge treatments in-house.
“And in general we just want to continue providing the highest level of care possible to our patients.”
