Hill’s Pet Nutrition has confirmed the availability of three free webinars on the subject of weight management, presented by leading experts in the field. All nurses, receptionists, students, practice managers (and vets) are welcome and delegates need only register once to enjoy the complete series of three talks. Use the link http://weightmanagement.hillsevents.eu/ to be taken through the registration process step by step. Marge ChandlerThe first webinar takes place on Tuesday 1st November. The speaker is Marge Chandler, DVM, MS, MACVSc, DACVN, DACVIM, DECVIM-CA, MRCVS, Senior Lecturer in Small Animal Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, Edinburgh and one of only two vets in the UK who are board certified in nutrition. Marge’s talk, ‘Pet Obesity   – our new understanding of the disease and why we can’t ignore it any longer.’ explains what scientists now know about the metabolic and endocrine changes that occur in obesity. This will provide nurses with the information needed to help pet owners understand that this isn’t a cosmetic issue – obesity is a disease that will make pets ill. The second webinar ‘The art and science behind pet obesity clinics – a practical guide to achieving a successful obesity programme in your practice’ is on Tuesday 15th November. Libby Sheridan, vet and Director of Mojo Consultancy, will describe how weight management clinics should be set up and what can be done to market and promote the service. Libby has a great deal of experience of developing professional and client support programmes and she will bring some fantastic new insights into how clinics can work more effectively. The third webinar is ‘From Fat to Fit: the rehabilitation of the obese patient’ and will take place on Tuesday 29th November. The presentation will be delivered by Donna Carver BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, Dip AVN (surg), RVN, MCSP and Melanie Grant MSc Veterinary Physiotherapy MCSP ACPAT (Cat A), both based at Glasgow vet school’s new state of the art Veterinary Rehabilitation Centre. Donna is a veterinary nurse with a diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Surgical) who subsequently gained a degree in physiotherapy. Melanie is a qualified physiotherapist with a Masters degree in Veterinary Physiotherapy. The speakers will be detailing exercise plans and therapies to help get the obese patient back to full fitness. All of the talks take place at 8pm and last for one hour, with another half an hour for questions. After registering using the link http://weightmanagement.hillsevents.eu/, delegates will be sent a reminder of their webinar and can download a CPD certificate after the event. For further information or help and advice, call Hill’s on 0800 242438 or in ROI 1 800 626002. Anyone with a PC or MAC and speakers and basic IT skills can access a webinar and as well as being able to watch live, registrants can also watch the webinar again at any time after the event, which means it is a form of CPD that fits well with busy and unpredictable schedules.
